This is a very nice and informative article from Version Femina magazine. By Cyrielle Bert, published on February 17th, 2015.
Flashdance: meeting with Priscilla
There is a Flashdance tour planned in France. In March, I will also be in a movie, Secret d’hiver, which deals with Asperger syndrome. 2015 is likely to be very busy and I’m thrilled!
How did you get the role of Alex Owens in Flashdance?
Just by chance! For several years I sponsored, with Bruno Berberes, a famous casting director (The Voice…), a singing contest in the South of France. One day he told me he was working on Flashdance and had trouble finding the female lead role: he needed someone who can sing, dance and act… I was not claiming knowledge of the three, but I wanted to try my luck. A week later, I was in Paris for the casting. After my performance Phillipe Hersen, the director, handed me the libretto and told me that I got the part. It took me some time to digest the news!
Was Flashdance a cult film for you?
It came out several years before my birth [haha!], but I knew it through my sisters, who were dancing and were fans of the film …
It’s a very physical role. How did you prepare?
After casting, I went home, in the South, to take non-stop dance classes for two weeks. Classical, jazz, stretching… I did everything! Then we started the period of preparation with dancers and actors. There, from May to September, we worked every day from 10 am to 19 pm. It was intense!
On stage acting, singing and dancing. It is a true performance…
There are days when it’s harder than others… Especially on weekends because we must ensure three performances. But it’s not the mind that is tired, it is the body. Still, I try to give each show the best of myself: firstly because I’m very demanding, but also because the audience is different every time and deserves the same energy.
Flashdance is played seven times a week. How do you manage it?
I try to have a good lifestyle. I eat well and I go to bed soon after the show: I need at least nine hours of sleep a night, otherwise I’m not on top!
You are used to perform on your own. Now with singers and dancers you’re on stage with 25 people. Do you like the spirit of troupe?
I think it’s great! And I was lucky to come across a great team. Everyone gets along. The atmosphere is very easy-going, we laugh a lot, we tease… And when there is a small loss of momentum, we stick together. In the morning, we are happy to go to work, there is the “smile”!
Flashdance started in September. Do you still have the pressure before going on stage?
No, the only time I feel the pressure, and it’s there every time, is just before the famous scene of the audition. This is THE mythical scene of the film, the audience is waiting, and it rests on my shoulders…
What are your next projects?
There is a Flashdance tour planned in France. In March, I will also be in a movie, Secret d’hiver, which deals with Asperger syndrome (a form of autism, ed.) 2015 is likely to be very busy and I’m thrilled!
You have also completed a new album?
Yes, although I do a lot of acting, my roots are in singing. This album is inspired by the spirit of soul, 60s Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations… I was rocked by this music. You will see that there will be some surprises, for the first time I worked with other artists such as Daniel Darc and Benjamin Biolay!
